Today we are speaking with Jacquelyn Briggs, a Teacher of the Deaf and music educator. Jacquelyn was a seventeen-year-old who was preparing to pursue music professionally when a car crash left her profoundly deaf in her right ear. As Jacquelyn accustomed to handling her "new normal", changes to FDA guidelines over time allowed for her hearing options to expand. Jacquelyn now wears a cochlear implant and has re-trained her brain to hear and appreciate music once again. In turn, Jacquelyn has worked with other cochlear implant recipients to adapt to their new sound, especially the sounds that take time to sound good! Jacqulyn's story teaches us that the future you plan might take an abrupt turn, but can still be fulfilling and rewarding.
