We all need motivation to get things done. Figuring the "why" is as important as settling on the "what" we are to do. The Bible speaks quite a lot about the motivations of the Christian life. Paul gives us 2 motivations in this passage:
The Fear of the Lord
In light of the Bema judgment by Jesus, Paul would not be complacent, but made it his life aim to please Him in faithfully preaching the gospel. He worked out his salvation with fear and trembling. He was intentional to evidence (not earn) his salvation in the fear of the Lord, who will render to every man according to his works.
The Love of God
Paul carefully evaluated the love of God in sending Jesus to die for him. He concluded that his new life in Christ must be lived for His savior. And it is this love ...
