Food offered to idols.
It was a problem in the Corinthian church because some of them are having fellowship meals over food offered to idols in temples!
This can stumble other Christians, especially former idol worshipers when they are encouraged to also now eat food offered to idols.
But the culprits allege that eating food offered to idols is no big deal because "they all know that there an idol has no real existence and there is only one God."
Paul, therefore, sets out to correct their thinking- It's not just "I can", but that "I care."
We must act in love towards others. We should aim to build up, and not tear down or stumble.
He points out that their knowledge has only made them puff up when they should build up (others).
