In the sixth pasuram, Andal gently chides young devotees to arise early & pray to Lord Hari in observance of the ritual vow. This song was composed in chaste Tamil over 1200 years ago by the only female Vaishnavite saint Kodhai Alwar, or Aandal as she is popularly known. The pasuram is a part of the Thiruppavai, a set of thirty songs sung in Margazhi (mid-December to mid-January).

Meaning of the pasuram

Even the birds are chirping; can you not hear,

In the temple of the King of Birds (Garuda)

The roar of the great white Conch?

Awake, O Young maiden!

He who drank milk from the poisoned breast of the demon (Putana)

And with a raised foot, destroyed the evil asura ...
