Why has General Motors recalled over 62,000 Chevrolet Silverado trucks?

General Motors has issued a recall for over 62,000 medium-duty Chevrolet Silverado trucks (models 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD from 2019-2024 production years) due to a defect in the brake pressure sensor assembly. The issue stems from a rubber diaphragm seal within the sensor, supplied by Kodiak Controls Inc., which degrades over time because an unauthorized chemical was used during its manufacturing. This degradation can lead to hydraulic fluid leaking into the brake pressure switch, causing an electrical short and posing a fire hazard.
