Taming the Beast Within

What do a raging bull elephant and a redneck in a pickup have in common? More than you think. In this week’s Unleashed episode, Brent and Kevin take on one of the hardest battles a man can face—anger. When that inner fire flares up, it can either fuel purpose or destroy everything in its path. Brent shares two powerful true stories: one about a young bull elephant in musth who becomes uncontrollable without older bulls to guide him, and another about a tense moment on the road when a stranger’s outburst tempted to light Brent’s fuse—until the Holy Spirit put it out. Together, they unpack how unhealed wounds, fatherlessness, and pride can twist masculine strength into chaos. Using a powerful framework from Brent’s upcoming men’s small group study, The Big 5 Mankillers, they explore how men can turn reaction into redemption—learning to pause, invite God into the heat, and fight differently. You’ll discover how anger hides behind fear, shame, and disrespect. You’ll learn why true strength isn’t about control—it’s about surrender. And you’ll find out what it means to walk in power that’s fueled by peace, not pride. When Fear Hunts You

What do you do when fear hunts you? In this gripping episode of Unleashed, Brent Henderson takes you deep into the soaked forests of Colorado—bowhunting elk and bear after a long night of pounding rain on Al’s Peak. As dawn breaks, he hikes through fog and silence, his boots caked in mud as thick as pancakes, unaware that something unseen is tracking every step. Hours later, on his way back down the mountain from the hunt, Brent notices his own footprints pressed deep in the mud. But there weren’t just his tracks this time—there was a second set. And they weren’t human. A mountain lion had been silently walking behind him. That moment became a mirror for a much greater battle—the fear that stalks every man. From the silent predator in the pines to the unseen threat of heart disease and open-heart surgery, Brent shares his personal journey of surrender, faith, and the peace that only God can give. But fear doesn’t always show up as a growl in the darkness or a doctor’s diagnosis. Sometimes it shows up in the places it hurts most—in grief, loss, and the kind of pain that makes forgiveness feel impossible. That truth came alive again just days after Brent’s surgery, when he and his wife Stacy watched the heartbreaking news of Charlie Kirk’s assassination—and the moment when his wife, Erika Kirk, stood before millions and said words that silenced the world: “I forgive the man who took my husband’s life.” Her courage didn’t just defy fear—it transformed it. Her forgiveness didn’t erase the pain—it exposed heaven’s power breaking through it. That’s what real faith looks like when fear is staring you down. You’ll also hear how brotherhood—not isolation—becomes the shield that stops the enemy’s advance. If fear has been whispering in your ear, this episode will help you face it, silence it, and find your roar again.

Finding God’s Purpose in the Pain

Sometimes the very thing that breaks your heart is the thing that saves your life. In this week’s Unleashed Podcast, Brent and Kevin talk about disappointment—what happens when our plans collapse, when we let others down, and when God seems silent. But what if those very moments are where God is protecting, redirecting, and reshaping us? Brent shares the story of missing this year’s elk hunt—a trip he’d trained months for and deeply looked forward to. It felt like another painful loss in a long year of setbacks. But after meeting with his doctor, he learned the truth: if he had gone on that hunt, carrying a heavy pack at 10,000 feet, he would have had a heart attack. Not “might have.” His doctor said emphatically, “Brent, you would have.” What looked like disappointment was actually divine protection. It wasn’t punishment. It was grace. Together, Brent and Kevin talk about how God works even in the pain—how the plans we lose often reveal the life He’s saving, the faith He’s refining, and the peace He’s preparing.

Who's Carrying You?

Episode 116 – Who’s Carrying You Through? Who’s carrying you through life’s battles? In this episode of the Unleashed Podcast, Brent shares raw updates from his open-heart surgery recovery, how encouragement from friends, family, and listeners has carried him through, and why recovery is never passive — it’s a fight. From early morning walks in the fall air to lifting light weights, he’s back in the battle, one step at a time. Brent also recalls the influence of Art — a man who was like a second father to him. Even from an ICU bed, Art carried Brent’s excitement for deer season, sketching out a scope cover design when he could barely lift his arms. That moment left a permanent mark about the power of encouragement. You’ll also hear about dangerous elk hunts with his friend Roger, and how setbacks — like surgery and unexpected injuries — reveal the importance of having men beside you when life knocks you down. Through Scripture, Brent points to Moses, Aaron, and Hur in Exodus 17, Barnabas believing in Paul when no one else would, and Barnabas lifting up John Mark after failure. These stories prove encouragement isn’t optional — it’s kingdom work. This episode is a challenge: don’t wait until someone’s funeral to talk about what they meant to you. Show up now. Be their Barnabas. Be their Aaron. Carry them through this life. Because encouragement is spiritual warfare — and it just might be the reason someone makes it through another day. Scripture references: Hebrews 3:13, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Exodus 17, Acts 9, Acts 15, 2 Timothy 4:11.

When Steven Curtis Chapman Rings Your Doorbell

What do open-heart surgery, life’s greatest challenges, and a surprise visit from the most decorated Christian artist of all time have in common? They all point to one truth: our strength will fail, but Christ in us never will. In this episode of Unleashed, hosts Brent Henderson and Kevin Huff reflect on Brent’s recovery journey after quadruple bypass surgery, unpacking how trials are often the very tools God uses to grow us up and draw us closer to Him. They also touch briefly on the recent Charlie Kirk assassination attempt, reminding us of the fragile reality of life and the urgency of anchoring our hope in Christ. One of the highlights of Brent’s recovery came when Steven Curtis Chapman—Brent’s longtime friend and touring partner from the early 1980s—rang the doorbell. Hours before a concert just miles away, Steven came to the house to check on Brent after his heart surgery. That’s what true friends do. Steven has earned more Dove Awards and Grammys than any other Christian artist, but as Brent shares, he’s still the same man who once asked him to stand as a groomsman in his wedding. Fame never defines who we are. Pain doesn’t either. True identity is found in Christ alone, and His strength is sufficient when ours is gone. Listen in for encouragement, perspective, and a reminder that God often shows up in the middle of our weakest moments with unexpected grace.

Healing Hearts

Episode 114: Healing Heart(s) What a rough September it's already been. We've had school shootings and deaths, we've seen someone stabbed to death on a subway, and many of us know who Charlie Kirk is and that he is now with our LORD. In this episode of Unleashed, Kevin sits down with a special guest to wrestle with one of the most sobering questions of our faith: what does it truly mean to be a truth teller? If speaking the truth costs us everything—our reputation, our comfort, even our lives—are we still willing to speak it? The life and death of Charlie Kirk becomes a launching point for this conversation, reminding us that truth has always come with a price. Jesus Himself told His disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). To follow Christ is to walk a path that may very well demand our lives, but it is also the only path to real life; to being unleashed for God's glory! Together, they explore how truth-telling is not simply about bold words—it’s about surrender. Laying our lives down doesn’t always mean physical death, though for some it does. More often, it means dying to self: laying down our pride, our fear of man, our desire for approval, and our addiction to comfort. The apostle Paul wrote, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Galatians 2:20). The true test of our discipleship is whether Christ is seen in us—even when it costs us friends, opportunities, or security. The conversation also touches the uncomfortable truth that silence is not neutral. To withhold truth when it is needed most is to fail as a witness. Jesus declared, “Whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:33). Either we stand on the side of truth or we bow to the comfort of compromise. This episode challenges listeners to examine their own willingness to risk it all for the sake of Christ. But the weight of this call is balanced by the hope of God’s presence and promise. Christ reassures us in John 16:33, “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” The cost may be high, but the reward is eternal. Revelation 12:11 describes those who overcame the enemy by “the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.” To be a truth teller is to live—and, if necessary, to die—anchored in that eternal hope. Ultimately, this episode is not about Charlie Kirk, or even about persecution itself—it’s about us. It’s about the choices we face daily: will we tell the truth when it’s inconvenient? Will we hold fast when our voice shakes? Will we lay down our lives, whether in surrender or in sacrifice, because Jesus is worth it? Kevin and his guest bring this question close to the heart, reminding us that Christianity without a cross is no Christianity at all. The call of Christ is clear: “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). To be a truth teller is to embody this love—to give of ourselves fully, regardless of the cost, so that the world may see Jesus through us. This episode of Unleashed is both a sobering challenge and a stirring encouragement to live with the courage of conviction and the hope of eternity.

Unleashed Heart

Episode 112: Unleashed Heart What does it really mean to be unleashed? It’s not just about breaking free from the Big 5 Mankillers—lack of purpose, lack of respect, anger, lust, and shame. You can conquer all those battles and still miss the one thing that matters most: surrendering your heart completely to God. In this raw and personal episode, Brent shares his shocking heart diagnosis, the sobering news that multiple bypasses—not just stents—would be required, and the way this moment stripped him of pride, ego, and self-reliance. Despite being in peak physical condition, his heart carried a hidden weakness. It’s a reminder that being strong on the outside doesn’t always mean everything is right on the inside. Through tears, prayer, and God’s Word, Brent discovered that you can’t fully live unleashed until you’ve surrendered everything—your health, your pride, your plans, and even your will—to the One who holds your future. The scar across his chest will become more than a mark of survival—it will be a testimony of God’s faithfulness, power, and purpose. This message isn’t just about surgery. It’s about the kind of surrender that ignites a new flame of purpose in your life—one that burns brighter after the furnace of trial. If you’ve been carrying fear, control, or pride, this episode will challenge you to lay it all down and trust the God who walks on water, calms storms with a word, and calls you to live unleashed.
