Don’t Be Like the Pharisees | Woe 1: Shutting the Door to the Kingdom (Matthew 23:13)
Episode notes
🌱 Welcome to Underneath the Surface 🌱 This episode kicks off our brand-new 5-part series: “Don’t Be Like the Pharisees” — a deep dive into the seven woes Jesus spoke in Matthew 23.
In Part 1, we unpack the first woe and explore how the Pharisees shut the door of the Kingdom in people’s faces — and how many still do the same today.
Jesus didn’t just call out religious leaders for tradition or hypocrisy — He exposed the heart posture behind it. We reflect on how we as modern believers can unintentionally act like Pharisees when we care more about appearances, control, or exclusivity than truly pointing people to Jesus and His grace.
📖 Key Scripture: Matthew 23:13
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces..."
🧠 Tune in as we go beneath the surface of this warning — so we can avoid falling into spiritual pride, self-righteousness, or misrepresenting the heart of God.
