The Kickback With Keri: Black Entrepreneurship & Business Spotlights

Why Are Black-Owned Businesses Always Expected to Be Cheap?

#43 We say “support Black businesses” until it’s time to pay. In this episode, we’re having an honest conversation about the pricing double standard Black-owned businesses face. Why are Black-owned brands criticized for charging what their products are actually worth while consumers often accept higher prices from large corporations and luxury brands? We’re breaking down why small Black-owned businesses may need to charge more to survive, the real costs behind running a small business, and why comparing independent brands to big-box retailers isn’t always fair. We’ll also look at what companies like Actively Black give back to the community beyond the product itself—and why quality, mission, customer experience, and community impact should be part of the conversation when we talk about price. If you’ve ever questioned the price of a Black-owned product, wondered why supporting Black businesses can cost more, or you’re a Black entrepreneur tired of defending your prices, this conversation is for you. 🎙️ I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note. 📲 Connect with me https://www.kerihenderson.com/links 📧 Subscribe to The Kickback With Keri Newsletter https://www.kerihenderson.com/newsletter Enjoying the podcast? What A 2-Month Podcast Break Taught Me About Building Slowly

Bonus
What was supposed to be a 5-6 week pause, turned into a much needed two month break. In this bonus episode, I'm sharing why I took a two-month break from podcasting and what the break taught me about podcast consistency, creative burnout, and building slowly. As a creator building a podcast with a full-time job, I've had to rethink what consistency looks like for me. I also learned that taking a break doesn't necessarily mean losing momentum. Sometimes rest gives you the space to refocus, refine your work, and come back with more creativity. If you're balancing a side hustle with a full-time job or trying to stay consistent as a content creator, this episode is your reminder that you don't have to build at everyone else's pace. Building slowly is still building. 📲 Connect with me https://www.kerihenderson.com/links 📧 Subscribe to The Kickback With Keri Newsletter https://www.kerihenderson.com/newsletter Enjoying the podcast?
