Talking Tasers & our surveillance culture – Something Worth Hearing
Something Worth Hearing by Paul Henderson
Episode notes
Tikaani Rhys was in Salish Park in downtown Chilliwack in July 2025 when she saw an RCMP officer interacting with some First Nations men who were drinking beer. The conversation escalated to the point where the officer had a man on the ground, kneed him in the back as he tried to handcuff him.
Tikaani didn't like what she saw so she approached and asked questions. But she ended up not only getting arrested but Tasered, too.
This week on Something Worth Hearing I show a video of the incident to co-producer Atlee James, also to friend of the podcast and lawyer Kyla Lee of Acumen Law, and I talk to both of them and to Tikaani about police use of force, mental health, safety, and our culture of surveillance where everything we do is caught on video.
