Something Worth Hearing – Alberta separatism is impossible & a right-wing win-win
This week I travelled to Alberta to talk about separatism. Turns out, no one there wants to talk about it so I talked to podcast friend, lawyer Kyla Lee, who explains how impossible it is for a province to leave confederation. Important stuff. Have a listen.
Something Worth Hearing – Is the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal working or not?
In this week's episode, Paul takes a deep dive into the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal to explain what it is, how it works, and why it exists. Then in the second half, he and Vancouver lawyer Kyla Lee discuss whether the tribunal is an important entity protecting people from discrimination or whether it is a kangaroo court as critics claim? You'll want to hear what they have to say.
Something Worth Hearing – Unsolvable Gang Hits
Firefighters extinguish a vehicle fire on a remote road and find a body inside. It's an all too common script for police agencies investigating organized crime killings. With no willing witnesses, scant evidence, and public interest focused on murders of actual innocent people, it's no wonder so many gang hits go unsolved. This week Paul discusses a few such cases in the Fraser Valley, including Orosmon Jr. Arevalo, Yee Hung Chin, and Hamza Fazil.
Something Worth Hearing – 'Murica, a defamation lawsuit & me
A different episode this week as it's been crazy times with two days in BC Supreme Court as I try to get a defamation lawsuit tossed out under the province's anti-SLAPP legislation. And also, I went to the U.S. Does that make me a bad person? I say "no." Washington is more like British Columbia than that Canadian province across the Rockies.
Something Worth Hearing – B.C.'s Mother's Day Murders
Three international students from India are convicted of first-degree murder for a horrific home invasion and killing of a couple in their 70s. In this episode, Paul outlines some of the terrible details from the courtroom and talks to Vancouver lawyer Kyla Lee about the case along with some of the underlying legal issues at play.
Something Worth Hearing – The Charter for Dummies
Paul Henderson talks with co-producer Atlee James in the first half of this week's episode, The Charter for Dummies. Then, he dives in with Vancouver lawyer Kyla Lee about clearing up some of the questions from dumb and dumber.
Something Worth Hearing – Talking Homicide with Vancouver lawyer Kyla Lee
Paul talks to Vancouver lawyer Kyla Lee about his murder map tracking every homicide in the area over the last 20 years and various elements of our criminal justice system deals with this most serious of crimes. Also check out independent news website Something Worth Reading, the companion site to the Something Worth Hearing podcast.
Something Worth Hearing – The Homicide Map
On Episode #002 of the Something Worth Hearing podcast with Paul J. Henderson, we look at the half dozen homicide cases currently before the courts in the Chilliwack area. Hear about a double-murder over a tiny dog, a tragic death of a woman living rough, and a domestic case where authorities don't have enough to charge the husband with homicide.
Something Worth Hearing – Introduction to the Podcast
"You've gotta get this on audio" – filmmaker Atlee James told me six months ago about the content on my independent news website, Something Worth Reading at pauljhenderson.com So, I did it. Welcome to the inaugural episode of B.C.'s newest podcast about criminal justice and the law, Something Worth Hearing with Paul J. Henderson. In this episode, co-producer and filmmaker Atlee James sits down with Paul to introduce the podcast about unsolved homicides, key elements of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, B.C. Human Rights Tribunal decisions, and other legal matters. It's going to be fun, entertaining, a little disturbing and very educational.
