Despite a significant military buildup in West Asia, including the USS Abraham Lincoln and advanced fighter jets, the US has not attacked Iran. This restraint is due to five military realities: Iran’s potential to overwhelm US defences, the high cost of interceptors, the vulnerability of US allies in the Gulf, the difficulty of a clean strike, and the risk of a prolonged conflict.
