Searching For Silver Linings

Searching For Silver Linings

by Kyle Shih

I'm about to throw up at Pho 79; taking life less seriously...

I need to live a little. I need to experience the human condition. I was in the car with my friend the other day and she said I need to take life a little less serious in some aspects of my life. I immediately agreed. It was almost like I was waiting for someone to actually say it. Anyways, there was really no structure or research going into this podcast, just purely talking about a decision to take life a little bit less serious in my friendships, activities, and even dating for the future. Enjoy.

Your hobbies are that serious... (ft. Joseph Tom)

My first guest podcast!!! Joseph has been a really great friend of mine since I got to college and has been a guiding mentor for me throughout my personal and professional career. He's in town and we were starting to talk about our hobbies and spontaneously decided to record this weeks podcast together! Give it a listen and hope you enjoy.

Why you should get more silly...

Such a great podcast topic requested by my friend! I definitely think being silly has been geared towards more negative sentiments lately, but it's time to be more silly. We don't have to take everything so seriously in our lives. We don't need to put so much weight on every little decision we make. Being silly proves its benefits and I couldn't agree more.

Every self-starter has this trait...

From what I've learned, the most successful entrepreneurs, self-starters, and people that take initiative all have one thing in common. They have unwavering optimism. These types of people take risks, and put themselves in situations that don't always have a clear path. But what keeps them going? Optimism. That small glimpse of hopefulness that they grab onto that develops into resilience through failures until they meet success face-to-face.

My issue with control...

I really like to drive... but maybe there's actually more to it? I recognize that I might have a problem with internal control. Controlling everything that I have the possibility of influencing so that it can create the best outcomes. But at what point does that become more harmful than helpful? And why do I always feel the need to control those things at a level of perfection? Kinda deep I know... but let's dive into it this week.

I've taken things for granted...

This past weekend I went on a road trip to along the coast to Monterey! And I had some moments of realization that I've been taking things for granted this past quarter. With all things school, recruiting, content, and just trying to make it in life, I've definitely overlooked the value and importance of some of these things. I have taken them for granted, but now I want to make sure that I continue to show gratitude for these things.

I still feel guilty when resting...

So I'm on Spring Break, and I've been doing absolutely nothing for a couple of days... and for some reason I feel guilty for resting. The feelings have definitely not been as strong as before, but they started to trickle back, which is why I felt inclined to make this the podcast topic for the week. Anyways, I did a little dive into why we feel this way and how we can grow from it! Enjoy :)

Nobody tells you in your 20s...

Introspective thinking. Figuring stuff out in your 20s. This is purely a rant to serve as a little stress reliever about the things that I've been thinking about. Maybe you relate? Maybe you don't? That is okay, because that's the nature of the 20s.

I only listened to one song every morning this week...

And that song was "Ring My Bell" by Anita Ward. Known in casino folklore for granting too many wins, and actually banned from being played on the casino floors had me curious. How would it affect my week if I decided to listen to it too?

Neuroplasticity... I guess it's been happening this whole time...?

I recently came across this term neuroplasticity and got really intrigued by it. I guess this is the word that explains what I've been doing with my mindset shifts? Anyways, hope you learn something from this!
