The following is a conversation with Refik Anadol. Refik is a media artist and director working in Los Angeles, California. He is a pioneer in a new art form called “data art”, in which images and sound are generated by the intervention of machine learning algorithms with data sets.

In the last week, the National Gallery of Victoria purchased Refik’s work, ‘Quantum Memories’ for their permanent collection. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement Award at the 12th Florence Biennale. He is also a lecturer at UCLA’s Department of Design Media Arts.
