He’s never played the game, He’s never taken aim. But, this time, he’s been ripped apart. He’s finally found the one, The damage has been done. This time he’s going for the heart. Everyone remembers their first lasting love when they realize, this is it. There's no turning back and time seems to be of the essence. It's time to go straight for the heart.
The call came late at night while she was there alone. The voice could not be recognized. There was an accident while he was coming home. The tears came quickly to her eyes. A father has an accident one day and he learns that each man is one miracle allowed. He chooses to give his miracle away so that one day his son might live.
Billy says we can make it, just give it a try. Together we can make it to the other side. Here’s my hand please take it, the creek is not that high. Trust in me and hold on tight. Here’s a ring please take it, I hope it’s your size. Mary won’t you be my wife. Young love is exciting and scary. When two young souls place their hopes and dreams in each other, they feel vulnerable, but, trusting in each other they follow their hearts.
I never took the time to say I love you. I never found a reason to believe in those words. When one of my students died, I reevaluated my priorities. Life is precious and not a guarantee. The loss of a young person is unexpected and seemingly unfair. I wrote this song to remind myself that showing and sharing love takes effort. When a person is gone it is too late to do and say what you really feel. I'll make it clear from now on.
Don’t let the devil have his say, you gotta earn each day, son. There’s a daily cost to be paid, yes, you gotta earn each day. There’s a cost to pay, there’s a price to play, As you pave your way, you …..must earn…..today. Sometimes life can be hard and your children are tempted to take the short cut. The best advice that I have been able to pass on to my kids is that "you must earn today".
No matter what’s said and done, I’ll be your son. A part of the family, it can’t come undone. I wasn’t the son you had in mind, but I will become that man in time. God has a plan for every thing. In his infinite wisdom, he places people together. That is true about children placed in the care of their parents. There is no blueprint and each child has their own path. Parents love each child as they are......unconditionally.
I believe when the time is right that God above will know, and I’ve always trusted him to let it show. Well, the time runs slow and the price is high, and the waiting never ends, and my patience tends to fail me when I need it most. But when I finally cast my cares away and I let my sorrow go. That’s when I find the blessings start to flow.
December 25th is almost here – We’re flying up to Denver this year. We’ll take the shuttle out to Keystone, to my brother’s winter home. We’re gonna have a Colorado Christmas this year. This Christmas past is one of the great memories of our family when all the cousins were together with Mammaw amd Pappaw for a C-O-L-O-R-A-D-O Christmas.
Just before we leave this place for wherever we’re bound, let me say some things I never could before. God blessed me with Genevieve Garcia Mayes to come along and join me for life's amazing journey. Thirty five years ago, in 1991, I wrote her this song to remind her that I would be waiting for her at Heavens' gate. I will be the one wearing Astros angel wings.
She don’t have to venture very far, Take on the world or chase a star. But, that don’t mean that she’s not working hard. My wife, Genevieve, put her career on hold for 12 years to raise our children. I wrote this song out of admiration, love and respect for my the most wonderful wife, mother and, now, grandmother who lives each day Heart to Heart.
