THE THEOLOGY OF THE UNSEEN — Conversation VI

MYTHS OF THE UNSEEN: DELIVERANCE OR DISCIPLINE?

There are things you can cast out—and there are things you have to put to death.

In this critical conversation of The Theology of the Unseen, Berry Mwamba confronts one of the most dangerous misunderstandings surrounding spiritual warfare: the belief that every persistent struggle in the Christian life must have a spiritual entity behind it.

The Bible tells believers to resist the devil—but it also tells us to crucify the flesh, flee sexual immorality, put sinful practices to death, and walk by the Spirit.

So what are you actually fighting?

Through the lives of David, Joseph, Samson, Solomon, Absalom, Demas, Cain, and others, this conversation explores the difference between spiritual opposition and the desires of the flesh. Joseph fled temptation while David gave desire increasing access. Samson possessed extraordinary strength but still needed discipline. Solomon’s wisdom did not remove the need to guard his heart. Their stories remind us that calling, gifting, knowledge, and spiritual experiences do not eliminate the need for self-control.

Berry also shares personally from his own Christian journey—how seasons of spiritual drift rarely began with one enormous decision. Often, they began with “just a little”: entertainment, social media, pornography, drinking, compromising environments, risky conversations, weakened boundaries, and gradually less prayer, Scripture, church, and intimacy with God.

Lot’s journey provides a sobering picture: first his tents were pitched near Sodom; later Scripture finds him sitting at Sodom’s gate.

Direction matters before destination becomes visible.

Special attention is given to pornography and modern technology. The same device carrying your Bible, worship music, sermons, and prayer notes can also become a doorway for feeding sexual fantasy. Movies, television, streaming platforms, reels, and other entertainment can also influence what becomes familiar, desirable, and eventually normalized.

The question is no longer merely, “Can a Christian watch this?”

A deeper question is:

“What is this feeding in me?”

This conversation is a call back to spiritual responsibility, prayer, holiness, boundaries, accountability, and disciplined life in the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes God delivers dramatically.

Sometimes God empowers you to keep saying no.

Sometimes the answer is to resist.

Sometimes the answer is to repent.

Sometimes the answer is to establish a boundary.

And sometimes the answer is simply:

RUN.

Because you cannot cast out what God told you to put to death.
