What if the battle did not begin when you first saw it?
In this deeply personal conversation, Berry Mwamba explores a sobering reality of the Christian journey: sometimes what eventually becomes visible in our lives began much earlier, beneath the surface.
Drawing from Ephesians 6:12, Peter’s warning to “be sober” and “vigilant,” Jesus’ warning that Satan desired to sift Peter as wheat, and his own testimony of spiritual battles that affected his marriage and family, Berry examines how weakened boundaries, tolerated compromise, neglected prayer, and spiritual carelessness can create vulnerabilities long before the consequences become visible.
But this conversation also brings an important warning: not everything is a demon.
Sometimes there is genuine spiritual opposition. Sometimes we are experiencing the consequences of our own choices. Sometimes the battle is within—the flesh, pride, bitterness, fear, wounds, desires, and habits that God wants to confront.
And people are not the enemy.
One of the greatest dangers of misunderstood spiritual warfare is turning against the very people we should be fighting for.
The Battle Before the Battle is a call to vigilance without fear, discernment without paranoia, spiritual warfare without abandoning personal responsibility, and a life established not in fascination with darkness—but in Christ.
Because sometimes the argument is not the beginning.
The temptation is not the beginning.
The crisis is not the beginning.
The visible battle may simply be where an invisible battle finally became visible.
And sometimes God allows us to recognize the battle early enough to close the breach, restore the boundary, return to prayer, repent, and rebuild before what is happening unseen becomes destruction in the seen.
