Today’s reading takes us to Exodus 34, where Moses returns to the mountain after Israel’s rebellion with the golden calf. The first tablets were shattered because of sin, but the second tablets testify to God’s covenant faithfulness. Israel had broken the covenant, but God’s mercy was stronger than their rebellion.

Exodus 34 reveals the heart of God: merciful, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, faithful, forgiving, and still perfectly just.
