Barb Aidelbaum most knowledgeable and technically sound skating coach
Episode notes
World renowned skating coach Barb Aidelbaum joins the show to chat about her incredible career in hockey and figure skating. We start off by chatting about her Canucks fandom and her days watching the team at the Pacific Coliseum before getting into how she went from being a figure skater and field hockey player to becoming one of the most respected skating coaches in hockey. Barb talks about working with players like Pavel Bure, Trevor Linden, Alex Burrows, Dan Hamhuis and Manny Malhotra, explains how skating development has changed over the years and gives us a look at what goes into improving the skating of NHL players and officials.
Then we get into her connection with Manny Malhotra and what makes him such a good fit to be the new head coach of the Vancouver Canucks, as well as her experience working with his son Caleb. Barb also shares some great stories from her career, including working with Pavel Bure and Dan Hamhuis, and talks about her work with the HEROES and Superheroes programs that use hockey to help marginalized youth. As well we chat about her work in Ireland, the importance of getting kids involved in hockey and so much more.
If you are sick of Luke Gazdic's poor analysis during the intermission, if you are looking for someone to banter with during the game and if you want to meet a bunch of crazy hockey fans then this stream is the one for you. There will be mayhem in chat so make sure you say hello when you stop by.
Come and watch the game with us.
