Luke: To the Least, the Last, & the Lost - Luke 7.1-10

It’s possible to know the right things about God and still slowly begin trusting your own goodness more than His grace. In Luke 7:1-10, a Roman centurion with power, money, and influence comes to Jesus with a completely different posture. He does not point to his generosity or status. He simply says he is not worthy, yet he trusts that Jesus only has to speak and healing will come. Jesus marvels at that kind of faith. Religion says, “I obey, therefore I am accepted,” but the gospel says we are accepted through Christ, and therefore we obey. Jesus isn’t looking for polished performance but humble trust.
