Research shows that making art can heal trauma, lowers stress and activates the reward center of the brain (so we feel good). I loved to draw as a child. Somewhere along the way though, making art became another way to seek approval. My parents oohed and ahhed when I replicated a portrait by hand. As an adult, I tried to reignite that innocent spark to create, but my inner critic attacked every paint stroke and I nearly stopped creating altogether.
