Bring it on with Abby and Elizabeth
Episode notes
Welcome to the cheer-ocracy!
This teen comedy from 2000 introduced Layla and her best friend, Abby to the spirit stick, the Clovers, and the unmatched intensity of "Nationals." Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku, and Gabrielle Union managed to show the world that cheerleading is more than just shaking pompoms while also touching on real issues like seeing people beyond stereotypes, acknowledging privilege, and the unfairness of cultural appropriation. Bobby had the pleasure of welcoming a new guest, our dear friend Elizabeth, to discuss everything from juicy lip gloss to female empowerment. Listen to this episode to find out how quickly things can go off the rails when you invite two thirteen year-old girls to be on the podcast!
