No Uterus, No Opinion. Let’s Chat: Roe v. Wade
Episode notes
Today on The (Dam)n Podcast, your co-hosts Dayna and Mikayla sat down with Emmana Jules to discuss all things Roe v. Wade. In 1973, Roe v. Wade established a woman's right to have an abortion without undue restrictive interference from the government. Now in 2022, the Supreme Court has voted to strike down Roe v. Wade, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Alito and obtained by POLITICO.
If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, 26 states are certain or likely to ban abortion. Restrictions and bans on abortion access is a direct violation of basic human rights and reproductive freedom. Bans on abortion will not prevent all abortions. Rather, safe and necessary medical care will no longer be accessible, specifically for our lowest-income sisters, queer, trans, and non-binary siblings, Black, brown, AAIP, and Indigenous people.
Overturning Roe v. Wade disproportionally harms those who already face systemic barriers to health care, including BIPOC, women, young people, those working to make ends meet, people with disabilities, immigrants, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
So, with that being said grab a glass a wine and settle in because shit is just getting started!
