CamdenCast Episode 417 - Twelve Angry People

The Rev is called to serve on a jury in a criminal trial and Brenda Hampton blew us here at CamdenCast away with the level of woke in this episode. While at times misguided, 7th Heaven navigates the flaws and prejudices in the criminal justice in the United States and expounds on the discourse surrounding race and the criminal justice system that we are still having 17 years later. We don't really know what else happened because this jury story line was so important to us. Originally published July 22, 2017.

CamdenCast Episode 416 - Say A Little Prayer For Me

Despite being the family of a minister, the Camdens only learn about prayer after the Rev gets a mystery letter from a boy whose family has been affected by gun violence. The entire family takes this as their cue to selfishly pray for the things that they've been wanting, with Matt, Mary and Simon all praying for dates. Lucy is surprisingly not terrible and the Rev finally gets told off about his meddling by the author of the letter. Originally published July 19, 2017.

CamdenCast Episode 409 - Dirty Laundry

The Rev meets a woman who spent time in an internment camp during WWII when she makes a generous gift to the church. In true 7th Heaven fashion there is a misguided attempt to mirror the troubles of the Camden children in order to reflect the lessons that we should have learned from the internment of Japanese-Americans. Lucy finds herself "in" with the cool crowd just as Mary has fallen out in the wake of the basketball scandal. Simon becomes a Communist after reading "The Outsiders." Matt might be married to Shana now because they did their laundry together. Originally published June 24, 2017.

CamdenCast Episode 408 - ...And Expiation (Part 2)

7th Heaven lets CamdenCast down again by dropping the ball on a two-part episode. Mary deals with the consequences of her vandalism and consequent arrest but is given maybe 1/16th of the screen time that her storyline merits. Simon and Ruthie go on some stupid quest to resolve the guilt they have about being responsible for Mary's trouble. Shana lays down some realness about how Matt needs to get on with his life after he realizes that he doesn't need to play a large role in the family anymore. Originally published June 21, 2017.
