Episode notes

Have you ever walked confidently into a room and then completely forgotten why you went there? You stand there looking around as if the furniture might give you a clue. “Was I getting something?” “Was I putting something away?” “Do I even live here?” Eventually you walk back to where you started—and suddenly remember. That's life. We don't always hit every note exactly as planned, but somehow the song keeps playing. That's why Classy Jazz seems like such a fitting coffee for those days. With its hazelnut and chocolate character, it has a smooth, comfortable personality that reminds me of good jazz: warm, interesting, and never boring. Here's something fascinating about coffee. Scientists have identified hundreds of volatile aromatic compounds in roasted coffee. These compounds help create the aromas we associate with chocolate, nuts, fruit, caramel, flowers, spices and many other characteristics. And here's the neat part: those flavors don't necessarily mean someone put chocolate or nuts into the coffee. Much of what we describe as flavor comes from naturally occurring compounds developed in the coffee and during roasting. Coffee is complicated! Come to think of it, so are people. Maybe that's why we shouldn't judge somebody—or ourselves—by one bad moment. There's a whole lot more going on beneath the surface. So, when today's plans get rearranged, you forget why you walked into the kitchen, or life decides to improvise, don't assume the song is ruined. Maybe you're just playing a little jazz. Pour yourself some Classy Jazz, smile at the unexpected notes, and keep going. Visit Cager's Coffee Hut at www.cagerscoffeehut.com and remember to keep brewing kindness one cup at a time.
