Psalm 25:4, 5 (opening two lines), 6-9
Scripture translation: World English Bible (WEB), Updated edition (American English). Source: eBible.org.
I can say the right thing and still leave the work undone. That second son sounds uncomfortably familiar: polite answer, no follow-through. But the first son reminds me that a bad first answer doesn’t have to be the last one. He changed his mind and went. There’s mercy in being allowed to turn around, and responsibility in actually doing it. Humility means I can quit defending a wrong choice just because it was mine. Paul points me to Christ, whose humility became obedience all the way to the cross. If I’ve promised to make something right, I ought to get on with it. A changed heart should show up in how I treat the people in front of me.
