Ecclesiastes 11:9-12:8
Psalm 90:3-6, 12-14, 17
Luke 9:43b-45
Remembering that life is short ought to make us more grateful for it and more attentive to God. Enjoy what he’s given you. Don’t put off knowing him until some easier season. Ecclesiastes names the strength we lose and the years we can’t hold onto; the psalm asks for wisdom to use the days we have. That’s a good prayer at any age. And when God’s words are hard to understand, bring him the question. The disciples heard Jesus speak about being handed over, and fear kept them quiet. I can recognize that impulse to leave a difficult question alone. I’d rather bring him my confusion than let silence pass for understanding.
