1 Corinthians 15:35-37, 42-49 Psalm 56:10, 11-12, 13-14 Luke 8:4-15
Somebody asks Paul what kind of body the dead come back in, and he tells them to go look at a seed. What you put in the ground isn't what comes out of it. The grain has to die first, and what God raises isn't the bare kernel you buried — sown in corruption, raised in incorruption; sown in weakness, raised in power. The psalm is a man in real trouble who has decided the same thing in advance: God is for me, so what can man do to me, and my feet were kept from falling so I could walk in the light of the living. Then Jesus puts the whole business on the ground. Same seed every time. The difference is what it lands in — packed dirt, rock with no moisture, thorns that choke it out while you're busy with the cares and riches and pleasures of life, or honest ground that holds onto it. And notice the last word. Fruit with patience. Nothing in any of this happens fast, and none of it looks like much while it's still buried.
