Ep. 48. Matt Gardiner: eSports and the Saris/Nopinz eSport Team

Matt Gardiner spent his high school years playing XBOX, becoming a master of Call of Duty and Halo. In college, he discovered that exercise could help relieve the stress of studying for the CPA. Then, with the CPA Certificate in hand, he took to triathlon, competing at the half-Ironman-length distance events. While training for his first marathon, a bike accident landed him in the OR to repair his broken collarbone. Desperate to keep his fitness, arm in sling, he hoisted himself up on an indoor trainer and began to ride. A friend suggested this new computer program that made riding indoors fun, called Zwift. With Matt, it was an immediate connection, his love of gaming, attention to numbers and date and desire to ride and compete has led him to where he is today - racing indoors year round and managing one of the top eSport teams in the world: Saris/Nopinz. Today, we talk about the road from couch to one of the most prolific Zwift riders in the world. www.sarisnopinz.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/saris.nopinz/?hl=en Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/mgardiner_sarisnopinz Support the show by rating and reviewing, and sharing with friends! Ep. 47 Chris Namba: Squid Bikes

Chris Namba was one of the four founders of the creatively painted and high performance bicycle brand known as Squid Bikes. Nearly a decade later Squid Bikes offer dozens of options for gravel, cyclocross, road and mountain bikes, each individually and uniquely hand painted with a rattle can (Spray Bike). When Namba isn't managing the bike brand or painting bikes, he can be found wrenching for the Blue Competition/Stages Cycling Team during the Cyclocross Season, and with Team U.S.A. on the mountain bike circuit. Ep. 41 Hannah Shell and the State of Gravel

Hannah Shell is a professional gravel privateer, powered by Vantage Racing and fueled by The Feed! She's racing the biggest gravel races in the U.S. as well as the Lifetime Grand Prix. She sparked my interest when she posted a strong opinion regarding the structure of the elite women's race at the recent UCI Gravel World Championships (NOT the Pirate Cycling League's Gravel Worlds in Nebraska!). I contacted her to have a conversation about the ever evolving gravel landscape. She was open and willing to share her opinions, which I did as well! We also get to know this long-time professional road racer who got hooked on gravel with a great result in her first gravel race a handful of years ago! It was fun getting to know her and I really enjoyed our conversation about the state of gravel. Be sure and follow her adventures on her bike and as she travels the country in her RV with her hubby Jake and two cats - find her on the gram at @hannhgshell. If you have opinions about the growth of gravel at the UCI level - look for that contact form here and let your voices be heard! Thanks again for listening to Bike Talk with Dave! Ep. 40 Savilia Blunk, Professional Mountain Biker, National Champ, 2022 Chequamegon Champ

Wanting to keep up with her older brothers, Savilia Blunk started mountain biking in the small California town of Inverness when she was young and shortly joined her NICA League high school cycling team where she learned about racing. College took her to Durango, Colorado where she not only sharpened the saw on the bike, but she developed a relationship with Cole Patten, also a professional mountain biker. The two now travel the country and world in pursuit of off road and gravel podiums in their Orange Seal team van and have created their popular YouTube channel: Cole and Savilia. In her first year at the UCI Elite level, Blunk has seen success in both the UCI Short Track as well as the XCO, or Cross Country Olympic courses, most notably on home turf in Snowshoe, West Virginia. She also took home the Stars and Stripes jersey as XCO National Champion at Winter Park in July. Most recently she won a very wet and muddy Chequamegon 40, where she agreed to join me on Bike Talk with Dave! Enjoy episode no. 40 and be sure to check out the Cole and Savilia YouTube Channel and give her a follow on instagram. @SaviliaBlunk. I can’t thank Savilia enough for being a guest on the bike talk with Dave podcast while she and Cole are busy training in Washington, preparing for their last two races of this year! She’ll be in Bentonville Arkansas later in October for the Big Sugar gravel race and at the Iceman Cometh mountain bike race in northern Michigan in November - and you heard her - be sure to say hey to her when you see her at these events, or wherever you run into the mountain bike champ!
