Chronological Reading of the Bible - Day 248 - September 5, 2026

This is part of a year long reading of the Bible chronologically in a harmonized format. 2 Kings 1:1 - 3:27 - Ahaziah inquires of Baal-zebub and Elijah announces his death. Elijah is taken up in a whirlwind, and Elisha receives a double portion and parts the Jordan. - Jehoram, Jehoshaphat, and the king of Edom go against Moab. Elisha provides water, and Moab is defeated until the king of Moab sacrifices his son. 2 Corinthians 4:7 - 5:10 - Treasure in jars of clay: afflicted but not crushed, carrying the death of Jesus so his life may be shown. The outer person wastes away, the inner is renewed. - We groan in this tent and walk by faith, not by sight, and must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.

He feeds a hundred men with twenty barley loaves, and they have leftovers according to the word of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:11 - 6:13 The love of Christ controls us. In Christ we are a new creation, and God has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Paul urges them not to receive the grace of God in vain, and asks them to open their hearts wide as his have been opened to them.

We are the temple of the living God, so come out and be separate. - Paul rejoices that godly grief produced repentance in them, and Titus's report of their obedience fills him with comfort and joy.

Jehoram of Judah and Ahaziah walk in the ways of Ahab. 2 Corinthians 8:1-24 - Paul points to the Macedonians' generosity in poverty and urges the Corinthians to finish their gift for the saints. - Titus and the brothers are sent to help administer the gift, so that abundance may meet need and all may be done honorably.

Jonah is angry at God's mercy, and the Lord teaches him through a plant and a worm. Acts 20:1-3 - After the uproar in Ephesus, Paul encourages the disciples, travels through Macedonia, and stays three months in Greece before a plot by the Jews makes him return through Macedonia. Romans 1:1-15 - Paul introduces himself as a servant of Christ Jesus, set apart for the gospel of God concerning his Son. - He longs to visit the believers in Rome to preach among them and be mutually encouraged by their faith.
