This week we're leaping feet first into one of our favorite Bollywood franchises, Baaghi! Get ready for fast-paced fight sequences, lots of love songs, and more high kicks than you can count. It is a Tiger film, after all! Baaghi was directed by Sabbir Khan, and stars Shraddha Kapoor alongside Tiger Shroff. Like what you're hearing? Heads up friends: this week's episode involves some pretty frank and unfiltered conversations about sex. How could it not, given the content of our movie? So maybe skip this one if you're not into hearing that! Thank You For Coming does something that not a lot of movies do: tells us that we don't need a romantic partner to feel complete, and that it's okay to love ourselves... not just emotionally, but physically! It stars Bhumi Pednekar, was directed by Karan Boolani, and written by Radhika Anand and Prashasti Singh. Like what you're hearing? How far would you go to escape an oppressive system? Would you resort to theft, manipulation, even murder? The White Tiger presents us with a character who would do just about anything to free himself from the "rooster coop" of society. Are his actions justified? We love a movie that leaves us with complicated feelings, and a lot to discuss! The White Tiger was directed by Ramin Bahrani, and is based on the novel by Aravind Adiga. It stars Adarsh Gourav, Rajkummar Rao, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
We're taking another quick vacation from Bollywood this week, and once more visiting the world of Tamil language films. Vaayai Moodi Pesavum is a story that celebrates communication in all its forms. So, it felt like the perfect pick to try a new episode format: one of us watches the movie with subtitles, and the other watches it without! Tune in to find out how successful we can be at discerning a plot when we don't know what anyone is saying (spoiler alert: turns out, very successful)! Vaayai Moodi Pesavum was written and directed by Balaji Mohan. It stars Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya Nazim, and Madhoo. Like what you're hearing? Online dating can be really hard. Especially when your date turns out to be a gorgeous jewel thief who recently stole the priceless Kohinoor diamond! And then the next thing you know, they've lifted you out of your boring life as a bank receptionist and swept you into a world of adventure, intrigue, and water sports. We've all been there, right? Well, maybe we all just wish we had. Bang Bang is based on the Hollywood film Knight and Day. It stars Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif, and Siddharth Anand directed. Like what you're hearing? Happy New Year, everyone! And what better way to kick off 2024 than with a little jewel thievery, some exceptional (and exceptionally terrible) dancing, and A LOT of SRK's abs? This Farah Khan classic has long been one of our faves. It stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood, and Vivaan Shah. Like what you're hearing? What a year it's been! We're taking a break from our usual plot recap this week, to look back on some of our favorite movies and bangers from this past year and set some goals for 2024. Stay tuned to the end for some rather silly bloopers! Thank you all, from the bottom of our Bollywood-filled hearts, for joining us on this journey. We can't wait to see you again in 2024! What are the essential ingredients of a Christmas movie? Well, a significant portion of the plot should take place on or around Christmas. There should be just a little bit of magic, bringing people together against all odds. And, of course, Santa should feature prominently. Going by these measures, how could we NOT consider Malang a Christmas film? Sure, it's also got murder, drug use, and police brutality at the forefront, but that just means there's something in it for everyone. Malang stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Anil Kapoor, and Kunal Kemmu. It was written and directed by Mohit Suri. Like what you're hearing? Don't let the title fool you-- this week's movie is more than just a love story! Not that we ever mind a movie that is just a love story, but it never hurts to tie in a few life lessons along the way. This newest flick from Karan Johar delivers characters who are at once confident in who they are, and who have a lot to learn from one another. The all-star ensemble cast includes Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and Jaya Bachchan. Like what you're hearing?
