The Power of Praying with the End in Mind
The Power of Praying with the End in Mind Our prayers are never without hope when we consider them through the lens of eternity. As followers ofJesus we already know that—no matter how painful, uncertain, or confusing life gets—the story ends in restoration. Every longing we lift up in prayer, whether for healing, justice, peace, or redemption, will find its ultimate answer in eternity. Revelation 21:4 offers one of the most comforting visions in all of Scripture: “‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (niv). This isn’t just poetic language; it’s a concrete promise about what God has in store. The old order, marked by suffering and sin, will be replaced by a new reality. And that’s why we keep praying. Because even when we don’t see the answer right away, we trust that everything broken now will one day be made whole. Whenever we pray with the last pages of the Bible in our hearts, our prayers get bigger, bolder, and braver. We stop whispering in fear and uncertainty and start declaring in faith, rooted in the confidence that God will set everything right. Jesus tells us in Revelation 22:12, “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done” (niv). This is one of the last promises in all of Scripture, reminding us not just that Jesus is returning but that He is coming back with purpose. That means the prayers we pray, the acts of love we offer, the battles we fight each day—none of it is wasted. Let’s pray each day like the people who know the end of the story. Response: Consider the heaviest burden on your heart today. What does healing or redemption look like in that situation? What would change about your prayer life if you prayed with eternity—and the certainty of God’s ultimate victory—in mind? Prayer: Lord, I praise You that the last page of the story has already been written. I claim Your promise that all of the sorrows of this world will one day pass away and You will make all things new.
