There Is Room for All of Us
1 Corinthians 12:24–26
There is so much room in the Kingdom of God for all of us to play our part.
How dare we limit God to our small circles and personal preferences?
The disciples looked at a man being used by God and thought, "He is not one of us." Jesus looked at the same man and saw someone advancing the Kingdom.
Sometimes we act as though God's power, opportunities, influence, and assignments are scarce resources — as though if God uses someone else, there is somehow less available for us. But this is the God who created the galaxies. The God who formed every star and calls them each by name. The God whose Kingdom has no end. How then do we convince ourselves that we are the only ones He can use? How do we become bitter because someone stood on the pulpit and prayed? How do we become jealous because someone is serving the poor? How do we compare our service with theirs, as if God grades ministry on visibility?
No way. The Kingdom is too big. Jesus is too glorious. The harvest is too plentiful.
There is room for evangelists and intercessors. Room for pastors and teachers. Room for those on the platform and those serving quietly behind the scenes. Room for those reaching nations and those discipling one person faithfully.
We are not competitors. We are co-laborers. The Church was never meant to be a collection of individuals fighting for significance. It was designed to be a Body, each member supplying what the other lacks.
Perhaps jealousy is ultimately a sign that we have forgotten the size of our God. Because when we truly see Him for who He is, comparison begins to look ridiculous. The God of galaxies does not need only one vessel. He is calling all of us. And there is more than enough room in His Kingdom.
From a teaching I recently listened to by a church leader: I love how God orchestrated the context of both messages — Luke 9 and this one — around the very same theme in the same week.
- Collaborate, connect, and pray for the world. Work together, unified for Christ's glory. Flourish together, as led by the Holy Spirit's inspiration.
- The gates of hell shall not prevail — but the enemy will make sure to plant fear, competition, insecurity, and jealousy. These are demonic forces designed to keep us from finding the key.
- To transform our cities and nations, we all need to be there, agreeing together that Jesus is Lord and Savior.
- Jesus desires to give us the keys of authority — the key of David, which no one can shut — opportunity, anointing, empowerment, and impact to share the gospel, as long as we uphold His name and don't deny Him.
- Don't hinder the work of God. We are all members of the Body of Christ.
- The great, effective door is open.
Reflect:
- Who is someone I could deliberately, specifically celebrate this week — a message, a call, a comment that isn't generic, but genuine?
- What would change in me if I truly believed someone else's blessing is not a subtraction from mine?
- Where have fear, competition, insecurity, or jealousy tried to keep me from the "key" God has for me?
Closing Prayer: Father, enlarge my view of You. Forgive me for the times I have acted as though Your Kingdom revolves around me. Remove every trace of jealousy, competition, insecurity, and comparison from my heart. Teach me to celebrate every person You use for Your glory. Help me to find joy in playing my part, knowing that there is room for all of us in Your Kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
