  • Talking with Geoffrey Biggs about Powering the World’s Robots with ROS

Talking with Geoffrey Biggs about Powering the World’s Robots with ROS

This podcast episode is a bit different than our usual ones. We have Geoffrey Biggs, the CTO of the Open Source Robotics Foundation, as a special guest. Along with our host, Angelo Corsaro, they discuss the beginnings of the OSRF and the pivotal role it plays in shaping the future of robotics. Founded in 2012, the OSRF has been the driving force behind several groundbreaking open-source projects, including the Robot Operating System (ROS), Gazebo, and Open-RMF. They also talk about democratizing robotics and how fostering a collaborative community drives innovation. It was a pleasure hosting this discussion, so please take your time to listen to it and share your thoughts. • Solving the Pain Points of Robotics with Zenoh

Solving the Pain Points of Robotics with Zenoh

The world of robotics has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years. Once confined to fixed locations, robots have now become increasingly mobile, venturing beyond the confines of wired networks and embracing the freedom of wireless connectivity. This comes with a new set of challenges. In this episode, our host, Angelo Corsaro, exchanges ideas and experiences with Julien Enoch, our Senior Solution Architect at ZettaScale. They're talking about several use cases of Zenoh in robotics. They're covering: - The limitations of DDS in robotics - Bridging the gap between Zenoh and ROS - Optimising ROS with Zenoh through the Zenoh RMW - The Zenoh bot experiment And there is a surprise announcement at the end, so tune in! The Value Zetta Brings in Software-Defined Vehicles and Automotive

Zetta Platform's ability to simplify management and deployment of decentralized infrastructure received positive feedback from developers in the past. Why? Because it handles the complexities of decentralized infrastructure management, enabling users to focus on their applications without worrying about the underlying infrastructure. Zetta provides a game-changing solution for the automotive industry. Its secure, performant, and cloud-independent nature makes it a powerful tool for developing cutting-edge vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) communication. In this episode, Angelo Corsaro (CEO and CTO of ZettaScale) and Gabriele Baldone (Zetta Platform's Architect at ZettaScale) discuss the advantages Zetta brings to vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) communication, in the automotive industry. Traditionally, MQTT has been used for V2X communication, but it presents challenges like scalability and congestion control induced by TCP/IP. With the Zetta Platform, these problems can be solved effortlessly. The platform offers support for MQTT bridges, allowing seamless communication between Zenoh and MQTT. This means that even if a car loses connectivity, telemetry data can still be collected and stored locally. This flexibility and scalability make Zenoh and Zetta ideal for sharing information among vehicles in close proximity. As Gabriele Baldoni says in this podcast episode, Zetta is the magic wand that enables the seamless management, deployment, and configuration of Zenoh applications, and not only, across the cloud. It allows the configuration of bridges to MQTT, DDS, and even ROS 2. This versatility makes Zetta a powerful solution for a wide range of applications. But that's enough talking!
