Remembering Ray Shero

We meant to come in and discuss Sidney Crosby for our 87th episode, but with the sudden passing of former Penguins GM, Ray Shero, we look back on his tenure as general manager of our beloved hockey team, including the deals that led to the 2009 Stanley Cup championship. Our condolences to the Shero family. We also review the Pirates historically pathetic public relations week, and maybe Shedeur Sanders to the Steelers is something that could happen?

2025 Pittsburgh Pirates Season Preview: Probably Really Bad

With the MLB's Opening Day just about here, we finally cave and preview the Pirates season. The good news is we like them against the Marlins this weekend, and even Skenes for Cy Young. However, there are plenty of reasons to doubt as we have learned for the past 10 years. Russell Wilson officially signs with the Giants, crossing another QB off the free agent list. Nevin makes his bold Steelers claim by stating Aaron Rodgers will sign with the Steelers when Pat McAfee brings his show to Pittsburgh on April 9th, 2025. The Penguins are back in losing form after a trouncing in Tampa, so we finally attempt some in-depth Riverhound analysis. Cody also poorly explains the plot and most recent episode of HBOMax's The White Lotus to Nevin.

Tristan Jarry is back to his regular form as the Penguins playoff hopes have just about hit absolute zero after Tuesday night's loss to the Islanders, so we bring you another couple of prospects to look for in the 2025 NHL Draft. We visit the latest reason for Bucco fan misery as Jared Jones has question marks surrounding his throwing arm popping up. We also begin to dive into Riverhounds talk as we teach ourselves how the USL works, as well as how World Cup Qualification works (don't worry, the USA is in the World Cup). Lastly we take a look towards the madness of March basketball, as we review Saint Francis' heartbreaking loss to Alabama State and look forward to a miracle Cinderella run from Robert Morris, as well as a breakdown of our brackets.

Don't look now, but after two straight wins, we make the case for other NHL general managers that Tristan Jarry is a great gamble for another team's goaltending struggles this offseason! The Steelers QB is empty and we are now deep into quarterback purgatory. We make our predictions as to what the rest of the offense looks like as the NFL's new calendar year begins! Nevin also makes his fiery take of the week in regards to the Meadville vs Uniontown playoff basketball brawl.

Three losses out of the four nations break and somehow each one got uglier, it's tank time in Pittsburgh and like the Penguins, YinzCenter is embracing the tank. With an 8.5% chance at the first overall pick (the fifth best odds a team can have), we decide to take a look at a prospect in the 2025 NHL Draft out of Sweden that could very much be in play for the Penguins. Perhaps the gradient Robo Pen is making a comeback?? Of course, we touch base on the preseason for the Buccos and Riverhounds, and there's still no really interesting news from the Steeler offseason and we tell you why. We also pay our respects to Mike Lange and Michelle Trachtenberg as we reminisce about 90s films. Cody tries to convince Nevin to watch Gossip Girl and YOU the listener can pressure him into doing so. Mrs. YinzCenter rejoins the show to give the Swiftie perspective on "The Big Game", Cody accepts the fate of the Kansas City Chiefs being our new NFL overlords while Nevin gives his hot take regarding the Paralympics.

Get ready to embrace hockey talk beyond the game-to-game stuff as the Mikko Rantanen trade took the NHL headlines and discussion of core players being moved are heating up (NO SIDNEY CROSBY ISNT GOING ANYWHERE ANY "SOURCE" WHO TELLS YOU SO IS LITERALLY LESS CREDIBLE THAN US). As for the rest of the sports in Pittsburgh, the Steelers are essentially irrelevant for the short term and is the NFL starting to trend that way with this Super Bowl matchup? The nicest thing one can say about the Pirates right now is that they are trying to be the best at being an incompetent baseball organization (at least they brought someone back?).
