Former Congressman Joe Walsh on Supporting Kamala Harris and the GOP’s Shift Toward Authoritarianism

Former Congressman Joe Walsh joins Jeff Hamlin on the WPTF Afternoon News to share his concerns about the future of the Republican Party under Donald Trump’s influence and his support for Kamala Harris. Once a Tea Party member himself, Walsh reflects on the GOP’s shift toward authoritarianism fueled by fear and anger, and he openly acknowledges his role in energizing this base. Now, he sees the movement as a significant threat to democracy. Although uneasy with certain campaign tactics that mock “MAGA” supporters, Walsh emphasizes the need to confront the dangers of the movement head-on. He remains optimistic that support from quiet Republicans and independents could lead to stronger-than-expected turnout for Harris in the upcoming election.
