Cartwright grew up in Dallas, Texas where he was given a guitar for his twelfth birthday and started penning his own songs shortly thereafter. By the time he hit high school, he was regularly playing in bars and local venues in town. A summer program at New York University exposed Cartwright to the world outside of Dallas and inspired him to head even further from home to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where he studied music business and songwriting. During college, he worked odd jobs in the music industry, including a stint as a wedding singer. Upon graduating in 2012, Cartwright moved back to Texas to pursue his own music career. Only three years out of high school, still living in his small East Texas hometown, Kolby Cooper started selling out shows and clocking millions of streams using only his songs as muscle, earning streaming numbers typically reserved for household names. Amassing over 113.5 million on demand streams to date, Kolby released his first EP as a signed artist, Boy From Anderson County, on August 6 via BBR Music Group / Wheelhouse Records in partnership with Combustion Music. They talk about everything from how he got his start, some of his favorite songs, his goals going forward, the impressions he loves to do and so much more! We covered many topics in this episode and had a blast getting to talk with him while he was in Chicago. Josh is a country artist born and raised in Cleveland Tennessee. He moved to Nashville in 2019 to pursue his music career. Before moving to the city, he signed a production deal with “Starts With Music”, a company owned by Nathan Chapman and Kevin Kadish. After moving to Nashville, he quickly signed a co-publishing deal with Liz Rose Music and Warner Chappell Music Publishing. He just released his first single, “Big on the Little Things” with a whole EP coming soon! Josh’s outlaw and 90’s country influences are evident in his music and in the soul in his voice. Not only is Josh an incredible vocalist, he can also play multiple instruments. By the age of 10 he had learned to play the guitar, piano, and drums.
