For Some Stuff, Distance May Be the Only Cure

Male violence against women and children is at crisis levels. Yet, women and children are being bullied into being silent about their fears and concerns over their own safety. Women and children are being discouraged from sounding the alarm and speaking about the realities of male violence, lack of security, prevention, and social safety nets. In this recording, Tonya GJ Prince talks about the importance of acknowledging your fears and speaking up as you are able. She gives voice to the importance of listening to the voices of women everywhere. Tonya GJ Prince from WESurviveAbuse.com, SurvivorAffirmations.com, and BraidtheLadder.org gives voice to healthful affirmations and reminders. The Rudeness of Silencing

"If you are silent about your pain, they will kill you and say you enjoyed it."- Zora Neale Hurston They say "silence is golden". WE say it is not. It is tarnished and rusty on the edges. Missed Feminist Opportunities and Missing White Woman Syndrome

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." Dr. Martin Luther King There is no such thing as a "convenient time" for a woman to speak out against injustice. Black Women Are Not the Mammy for Every Movement

It's true. Black women are great warriors and strategists. We come from cultures that are filled with love, compassion, and resilience. People around the world have always had needs, but so do we. "Mammyism" That's a term I am hearing more and more often. "Mammyism" is the demand for Black women and Black girls to do more while continuing to accept that they will get less. One of the major tenets of Mammyism is that Black women and Black girls labor for people who have no intention, and therefore no plan to labor for us in return. When we say that I want everyone to be safe, healthy, and get all of their financial needs met, I mean Black women too. WESurviveAbuse.com encourages and supports the de-silencing, healing, & empowerment, of victims & Survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence.
