Hellhole, USA

Welcome to Centralia, Pennsylvania—a town that’s been literally on fire since 1962.

In this episode of Waywut, Jason and Darrell dig into one of the strangest and most overlooked environmental disasters in U.S. history: the Centralia mine fire. It started as a simple landfill burn and turned into a permanent underground blaze that forced nearly the entire town to evacuate. Streets collapsed, gas filled basements, and decades later… the fire is still burning.

🔥 What you’ll hear in this episode:

• How a landfill fire accidentally ignited an abandoned coal mine
• Why state and federal attempts to stop it failed for decades
• The real story behind the ghost town that inspired Silent Hill
• The residents who refused to leave even after the ground opened beneath them
• Why there are still over 100 underground fires burning across the U.S.

This is weird history, government failure, stubborn humanity, and slow-motion disaster—told Waywut-style.
