Passages: Luke 15:1-32; Luke 16:1-31; Luke 17:1-19
Grumbling that Jesus welcomes sinners and eats with them, the Pharisees and scribes hear three parables in response — a shepherd who leaves ninety-nine sheep to find one lost one, a woman who sweeps her house for a single lost coin, and a father who runs to meet a son who left home and wasted everything, then comes back expecting nothing. Jesus turns to his own disciples with the strange story of a dishonest manager who is commended for his shrewdness, then tells of a rich man in fine linen and a beggar named Lazarus at his gate — one comforted after death, one in torment, with a great gulf fixed between them. Jesus warns his disciples about causing others to stumble, teaches them about forgiveness without limit and faith the size of a mustard seed, and heals ten lepers on the road, only one of whom — a Samaritan — comes back to say thank you.
