Into Shadow

We look at the season two finale of Babylon 5, "The Fall of Night," which marks a crucial turning point in the series. As the Centauri Republic expands aggressively, Captain Sheridan grants sanctuary to a fleeing Narn warship, setting up a conflict. Earth's Ministry of Peace arrives to negotiate a non-aggression treaty with the Centauri, raising concerns about appeasement. The episode highlights the growing influence of the authoritarian Nightwatch program on the station.

Tensions escalate into a standoff between Babylon 5 and a Centauri warship over the Narn vessel. The climax features Ambassador Kosh revealing his true form to save Sheridan, hinting at a larger cosmic conflict. The episode concludes with Commander Ivanova's narration, stating that while Babylon 5's peace mission has failed, it has become humanity's last hope for victory in the coming war. This sets the stage for the more conflict-driven narrative of future seasons.
