Episode notes
In this Voices of Life “Did You Know?” episode, Pastor David reflects on the second atomic bombing of World War II — the attack on Nagasaki, Japan, on August 9, 1945.
Three days after Hiroshima, the B‑29 Superfortress Bockscar released the plutonium bomb known as Fat Man over the valley city of Nagasaki. The explosion destroyed one‑third of the city, killed tens of thousands instantly, and led to Japan’s surrender six days later.
With a calm, pastoral voice and reverent tone, Pastor David guides listeners through the historical facts and the spiritual lessons that emerge from this moment — the cost of power, the call to peace, and the enduring hope found in Christ.
You’ll learn:
- Why Nagasaki became the second target instead of Kokura
- How the terrain shaped the blast and limited destruction
- The human toll and long‑term radiation effects
- The role of the Soviet declaration of war in Japan’s surrender
- How the Nagasaki Peace Park and Atomic Bomb Museum preserve memory and promote peace
This episode reminds us that history is not just about nations and weapons — it’s about people, choices, and the divine call to compassion.
