A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness appeared on the scene as a departure from the guitar-based indie pop music of the day. With organs and analog synths taking front stage on the album, it represents a landmark work in independent pop.

Recorded in a garage in Sacramento with friends and members of Dusty’s previous projects including Jim Rivas from The Rosebuds, Dusty brought together a phenomenal group of musicians. During their conversation, Dusty shared the origins of the band, the recording process as well as the album’s connection to bossa nova legend Astrid Gilberto and even TV Guide!
