Everyone's Favorite Heresies: Heaven By Your Bootstraps? (01.21.24)
University Presbyterian Church, Chapel Hill, NC by UPC, Chapel Hill
Episode notes
Sermon by Meg Peery McLaughlin from Romans 3:9-12; Romans 5:1-2, 8-11
The word heresy comes from a Greek word meaning “choice” or “thing chosen,” meaning a heretic was someone who made a theological choice that the wider church decided was invalid. There is so much we can learn about our own faith today by examining these “favorite” heresies of our church history. This sermon looks at Pelagianism, i.e. can we earn our way into heaven?
