#98 Your Boredom Is a Lie You Tell Yourself to Avoid the Void
Episode notes
Observe yourself. You pass from one desire to the next without pause, and each gap between them — that brief interval when no object holds your attention — you experience as a faint unease. You call it boredom, but it is not. It is the sensation of existence itself, stripped of its distractions, and it terrifies you.
You have built an entire civilization to keep that gap closed. Constant entertainment, ceaseless tasks, infinite scrolling — all designed to ensure you never have to feel the ground beneath your feet. And you succeed, mostly. But in succeeding, you succeed only in living a life that never asks the one question that matters.
For if you could sit in that gap, not fighting it, you would encounter something truer than any pleasure or pain: the quiet fact of being, with no purpose, no direction, no escape. You avoid it as if it were death. Perhaps that is exactly what it is — a small taste of the only freedom you will ever know.
