#92 Let a Thought Go Undefended for Once

You meet a friend. They say a thing that could undo a part of you. Right away, the mind is busy: constructing a reply, locating the flaw, preparing the counter. You never actually hear it. You only collect the raw material for your next sentence.

The thing that could have changed you passes by like a stranger at a train station. And later, you call it a good conversation. You never lost. That is the heaviest loss.
