Episode notes
When you're trying to be unique, you're still playing the same game as everyone else: prove that you're different. But the axis of comparison is chosen by the crowd. The more effort you put into being a certain kind of person, the more you validate that the axis matters.
A friend of mine once said, 'The people I admire most never talk about being authentic. They're too busy doing things that interest them.'
If you're genuinely absorbed by something, you don't need to be different. You just are. The difference becomes a byproduct, not the goal. That's real freedom — not caring where you land on anyone's map.
