Season 2
Episode 63; Birna Brjánsdóttir, and Survivor Yuly Solano
Happy almost-April Fool's Day at the True Crime BnB, to our little crime fam! After the last few episodes, you're probably looking for a little bit of a break....but you've come to the wrong BnB if that's what you're after. In fact, Bailey is so far from giving us a break that she has found a heartbreaking and maddening case from one of the safest cities in the world: Reykjavik, Iceland. Birna Brjánsdóttir was a 20-year-old with her entire life ahead of her, and a plan on what she wanted to do with it. A sailor on leave near Reykjavik randomly passed her on an early Saturday morning, and that was the end for Birna. She should be remembered, and her story should be shared. Beth brings the survivor story this week, with a woman who was shot four times in the 'kill zone,' and still lived to tell her would-be killer, "I won, and you lost." Yuly Solano met a man at her Florida condominium and when she decided not to date him, he did the unthinkable outside of her home. And when Yuly said he lost; he really lost. He attempted murder-suicide, but only the suicide was successful. Yuly is an amazing woman that you'll be glad you heard about. And if you are in a position to assist her with her over $1,000,000 in medical bills from the surgeries that saved her life, you can find her GoFundMe here: https://gofund.me/ada32743 Thank you so much for joining us today. The bloopers this week were ridiculous--hang around after the meowtro! Hello and welcome back to our dear Crime Family, we're glad you're here! We're flipping the normal roles this week, with Beth taking the first part of the episode. The setting was Washington State in 1977, and 24 year old Susan Schwarz was being, as always, a very good friend. When her longtime BFF intimated that she wanted to get away from her abusive husband, Susan helped her escape to Minnesota. But when the ex later found out that Susan had 'interfered', he brutally took out his fury on her. Another victim of this awful man was so frightened of his cruelty that she was terrified to tell what she knew. But years later, this woman was the key to putting him away. If the second half of this episode title is stressing you out, it should be. Bailey tells the events that happened in Cline Falls State Park in Oregon in the late 1970's, when two young Yale students stopped there while biking the Trans America Trail. Terri Jentz and Avra Goldman experienced a senseless, brutal attack at the hands of a man who has never faced justice, despite it being commonly believed that the perpetrator is known. But both women survived, thanks to superhuman determination by Terri to get help for herself and her friend. Their story will stay with you for a long time. Happy Friday to all of you; we thank you for joining us again! Have a seat, grab a pastry from the basket, and let's talk about some amazing people who experienced some really terrible things. Because that's what we're here for--to remember them and to share what they went through. Let's get started. . . . . .If you enjoy our show, please share our episodes on social media--that's the greatest way to help us find new listeners. Céad Míle Fáilte (100,000 welcomes) Crime Fam, how was your pre-St. Patty's week? If you had a rough one, like we did, do yourself a favor and listen to this episode, because afterward you will remember how much worse things could be. Bailey is our bad guy with the sad story of Lucie Turmel, a sweet young woman in Banff, Alberta, who was just trying to make a living when she senselessly and tragically became a victim. But the person who hurt her wasn't trying to hurt HER, he was just a complete fool who had misguided ideas about what it means to be successful....or to just look that way. Lucie deserves to be remembered, because she was kind, and sweet, and she was loved. Beth is bringing you week two of "Claustrophobic Nightmares" but this one is also cold. Teri Jendusa-Nicolai had almost no chance to survive. She was gravely injured and put in a circumstance where she should not have come through it. But if that's what you think, you just don't know Teri Jendusa-Nicolai. She is a hometown girl with a fighting spirit, and you're going to love her! So, on this Saint Patrick's Day, May peace be within you, may your heart be strong, may you find what you're seeking, wherever you roam. Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig ort, to our Irish friends, and our wannabe Irish friends! We love you, and we hope all good things will come to you and yours. Thank you for joining us, and we hope to see you back next week! . . . . . If you enjoy our show, please share our episodes on social media--that's the greatest way to help us find new listeners. Hi, thanks for stopping by the BnB! This week, we have two wildly different stories, and both of them just left us shaking our heads! Bailey starts things off with the suspicious death of Christian Andreacchio in Mississippi. There was a LOT of weird stuff happening before, during, and after Christian was found deceased, and the fact that authorities immediately ruled it as self-harm does not answer any of the questions that remain. Please-- hear this story out, and let us know what you think happened here. Beth follows behind, in the uplifting story, but this week (well, kind of like it always is...) it's a mixed bag. In order to lift up, we have to first go through an absolutely ghoulish attempt that Michelina Lewandowska's ex-fiancé made to get her out of his life so he could have their son to himself. This woman is an adorable soldier, and she will make you think twice about giving up on anything. We know that it is a gift for you to give us an hour of your time every week, and we thank you, and we love you. And to our dear friends Lyndon and Andy, apologies for the cheeky accented pronunciation of "Huddersfield" in the bloopers. It's all out of affection! Since it's Friday, I hope all of you are headed into a relaxing and fun weekend. Have a glass of wine, on us. For once, we don't need any wine because Puss left us alone to record for maybe the first time ever! Cheers!! . . . . . Welcome back, Crime Family, we're glad you're here! This week, Beth brings back installment 9 of Architect Mayhem, with the tragic death of visionary Graham Downes. Graham was a South African Bauhaus-style Architect who transformed San Diego, California, but was cruelly killed by an insecure employee. Bailey lifts up the second half of this episode with the survivor story of Kirby Morrill, a Canadian woman who survived a brutal machete attack on the Appalachian Trail, the 3100 mile / 5000 km hiking odyssey undertaken by thousands of people every year, 75% of whom don't finish it. Unfortunately, Kirby lost a protector and supporter on her journey, and Bailey will tell you all about what a good guy Ron Sanchez, Jr. was and how he helped Kirby out twice before he lost his life. This week, we are sharing the trailer for our friend MaryAnne from Crime Scenes and Cupcakes, a True Crime Podcast, who has one of the best hearts and purest intentions in terms of what she hopes to do with her podcast. She started with the intent to find the killer of her friend Krista Martin, but she is using her voice and investigatory skills to shed light and uncover information on missing persons and unsolved cases, every single week. If you want to support a podcaster who is truly doing the damn thing, you should be supporting MaryAnne. As Kirby said, "Are you going to let a little fear stop you from doing what you want to do in life?" Thank you for joining us, friends, family, and everyone else who finds us here. We appreciate you and hope you're healthy, happy, and don't need an alibi. . . . . . Friends, colleagues, and Crime Family--what do you get when a serial rapist isn't put away with hard time? You get two senseless and infuriating murders (at least--maybe more) of Swedish women, who each had their whole lives left to live. Bailey will bring you the stories of Engla Högland and Pernilla Hellegren, who both deserved better, but who were stolen from their lives by the same disturbed man. Beth is in the palate cleanser seat, and is telling you about Doctor Michael Wong. This man is not only a life-changing doctor and patient advocate, he was attacked and nearly killed in the Melbourne, Australia hospital where he was a neurosurgeon. Hospital security is only one of the meaningful causes he now champions, as he invents new ways to save lives, both in the operating theater and amongst his healthcare colleagues. So if you came here today looking for stories of true crime that will both make you grateful for your own safety and also celebrate the survivors amongst us, you've come to the right place. This is what we do at the True Crime BnB. Welcome aboard--we're glad you're here. Now, have a seat, grab a glass, and let's get started. Meow. . . . . . Hi, Crime Family, happy to see you back this week! This week was Valentine's Day, and in dishonor of the holiday, we are bringing you not one....not Two....but THREE loves gone wrong. And wrong in ways that that average person can't even fathom. Bailey starts us out by telling the story of Gregory Green, who killed his pregnant first wife Tanya Clayton Green. Against the odds, he then was entrusted with a second chance. The problem is, that with his second chance, he committed a horrific family annihilation.... except for leaving his second wife Faith Harris Green alive, just to torture her. This one is brutal and maddening. Beth follows up with a survivor story of a Pacific Northwest artist named Lonnie Feather. She thought that after twenty years, she knew the man who was working his way into her life. Unfortunately, he was a professional and knew how to make her see what he wanted her to see. She survived his attempt to kill her, and you will love her strength and stubbornness--he wasn't taking anything more from her! So get ready for a rough first story, and then a story that will remind you that inside all of us, there is a SURVIVOR. Love all of you, thank you for being here. The bloopers are a hoot this week, and we actually cut out a LOT of Puss interruptions. A LOT. So hang around after the meowtro, it's worth it! See you next week! . . . . . BONUS EPISODE 50.5; Just One B; Jamie Grunwald and Daniel Mulligan
Welcome to the New Year, Crime Family! Today's Just One B is (admittedly) a bummer with a positive spin, as told by Bailey. Jamie Grunwald and Daniel Mulligan; both survivors of two very different and random attacks in Green Bay, Wisconsin, only a few weeks apart. Join us as we discuss what happened, why it happened, and how they both managed to survive. Although this is a survival story, we do warn you that it's not a light-hearted or easy one to hear. So grab a glass of your favorite beverage, have a snuggly pet close by, and let's dive in. We're so happy to have you here with us for our first bonus episode of 2023, and we will be back for our full-length episode on Friday, as always! . . . . . Episode 56; The Cabo Verde Tourist Murders and Survivor Marti Hill
This week for Episode 56, we are taking you on vacation! Just to clarify, the first half of this first episode of Pod Year Two is the story of an island paradise that was tainted by modern crime. Beth is bringing you the story of Italian tourists Dahlia Saiani and Giorgia Busato, who were regular visitors to the Island of Sol in the Cabo Verde archipelago. These two women, along with a 17 year old guest, were visiting the island in 2007 when the two adults were brutally murdered by an ex romantic partner. Had it not been for the survival of teenager Agnese Pace, it's likely that the murders might have never been solved. And Bailey shares the amazing and unlikely survival of Kansas single mom and graphic designer Marti Hill. Marti was attacked and left for dead in her own basement, after her attacker decided she would be easy to kill and then wouldn't be discovered for days. But he was wrong. Marti's website MartiHill.com, where you can also find her memoir "Millimeter From Murder", provides resources to help heal the emotional wounds of violence. At the beginning of this episode, we played the trailer for our friend Patrick, whose Not Adding Up Podcast is always well-researched, well-reasoned, and shines light on cases that aren't as cut and dried as people might want the public to believe. Please check out Not Adding Up, and subscribe, wherever you're listening to us! It's exciting to be starting our second year of podcasting, and we are thankful to all of you who have listened, shared, usand helped us grow! We are so glad you're here! Thank you! Roxanne Wood and Kelly Herron
Crime Family!!!! Can you believe this week is our Podversary!?? We have released every week over the past year, and we're thrilled to still be here! This week Bailey brings us a rough story of a lovely, vibrant life cut short in a senseless crime. Roxanne Wood just happened to live near a guy who was paroled only four months before he snuck into her home and attacked her. It took decades to clear her husband, and to finally find the guilty man. And Beth is following up with a story about the MOST BADASS woman! Get ready for multiple iterations of the phrase, "NOT TODAY, MOTHERF#$%ER!!:" and even if you're offended by that language, you're going to LOVE this survivor!!! She not only saved herself; she is determined to make running, and life in general, more survivable for women who don't want to have a bodyguard or chaperone. Kelly Herron, our heroine, is against letting little misbehaviors pass, because they only lead to bigger misbehaviors in the future. Her website is www.nottodaymf.com and this it definitely worth a visit!! If you want to purchase a 'Not Today MotherF&cker' t-shirt, you can find them at that website or on Amazon.com under the search term "Not Today NTMF".
