Trauma In Our Veins

Trauma In Our Veins

by Maggie R. & Erica W.
Season 2
Women of the Regime
Explicit
Hey listeners, We are back at it again, except this time, we felt like focusing on the women in the regime...by regime, we mean "Trump's regime." So we are sharing some facts and information on the women in power, with a salty twist. Sorry, not sorry. We are so angry. We also think it's important to spread awareness of what is going on behind the scenes. Humans (male or female) are powerful beings. We all need to be mindful of how we use that power, for good or for evil. Not only for ourselves and those who look to us, but for the history we will leave behind. Make no mistake, there are too many powerful men currently who are too willing to allow women to take the fall for their evil decisions. However, we also have women we can look to, and that is where we place OUR faith.
Doom, Gloom, and Chaos
Explicit
Hey listeners, We know it has been a little bit since our last episode. We are a little behind, but like who isn't? We are sadly back to the real stuff today, as the world's events wait for no one's rest. We are watching the world around us burn and looking for any glimmer we can find while keeping ourselves fully informed and active in spreading awareness. From ICE in the airports to boots on the ground, we will cover several updates and share our concerns. (Some of the comments are a little weird, to be fair. Talking to you, Erica.) We will not be distracted from the issues at hand, but we WILL do our best to make you giggle while we inform you, because if we don't laugh....well, we might scream and/or cry. A lot. We end this episode with some more Reddit.
Break From the Noise: TIOV Reads Reddit part 1
Explicit
Are you sick of being so serious? So are we! Here, we take a much-needed rest and reprieve from the chaos of current events, and instead focus on some day-to-day drama from the magical world that is Reddit. We enjoyed it so much, we're planning to work some stories into the end of future episodes so we can end on a high note. Let us know if there are any kinds of stories you would like to hear! We are also looking for more guests!
Staying Human in a Time of W.A.R.: Wounds, Anxiety, & Resilience
Explicit
Trigger Warning This was recorded a few days after the war in Iran started; we know the number of lives lost has increased. This episode opens with a moment of silence honoring the soldiers killed in Iran, including a close friend of Maggie’s husband. From there, we take a grounded look at the political events that led to the current war and why global tensions feel so high right now. We explore the mental‑health impact of living through conflict, how trauma shows up in the body, how fear narrows our window of tolerance, and why regulation becomes harder under threat. Finally, we talk about what it means to prepare as a community, support one another, and stay connected in a time of uncertainty.
Sexism, Sports, and the Stuff We’re Tired of Pretending isn’t there
Explicit
Trigger Warning Heyyy Ladies….this one’s for you! In all seriousness, in this episode, we dig into everyday realities of sexism and how it shows up in every aspect of our lives, not just sports or the news. We explore the Olympic headlines and comments made about the women’s hockey team, and how sexism is not just a collection of isolated incidents but a cultural system that shapes expectations, behavior, and identity. We share personal stories and honest reflection, and the way these experiences intersect with family dynamics, faith, and the messages we were raised with. Amid the frustration of being a woman, we highlight the empowerment that comes from naming these experiences and reclaiming our voice! We want to honor women and their experiences, their anger, and their power within them to lift them and amplify our voices!
When Politics Threaten Our Identities
Explicit
In this episode, we explore why political conversations feel so personal, so explosive, and so deeply tied to who we are. Politics has shifted from policy debates to something that touches identity, morality, childhood conditioning, and our sense of safety. We unpack how current events echo old wounds, why certain topics trigger intense emotional and physiological reactions, and how fear-based messaging keeps people in a constant state of threat. We get into faith, and how that has influenced and contradicted our views and reshaped our values, but don’t worry, this episode is not all doom and gloom. We will also talk about how empowering it is to strengthen our values so we can face these conversations with clarity and understanding of who we are amid insane politics.
Family, Politics, and Finding our Backbone
Explicit
Hey listeners! In this episode, we get into it...well, this is just the start anyway! Political division within the family is reshaping our relationships, whether we feel like arguing with our dad or uncle over Trump disagreements. Not only that, but it is also helping people grow clearer and more confident in their own values and beliefs. Throughout this episode, we discuss the stress of talking politics with family and how to navigate those conversations, especially when they feel more like debates. We also talk about how to stay grounded and sane throughout these difficult conversations by sharing personal stories and relatable moments, and we even provide practical tools for surviving these political discussions. The world will keep testing you, so let us help you find your backbone, and we can laugh together about our ridiculous family views.

National Infertility Awareness Week Special
Bonus
Explicit
Trigger warning: In this episode, there is mention of infertility & miscarriage. April 19-25th is National Infertility Awareness Week, founded by RESOLVE. The purpose of this movement is not only to bring awareness around infertility, but also to change the conversation around infertility. TIOV wanted to highlight this important week because it matters, and it is something near and dear to Maggie’s heart, as she has her own infertility story. This episode was solely recorded by Maggie so that she had the space to explain the importance of infertility awareness, but she also shares her story in hopes that it helps someone else feel less alone.
