Stronger than ulcerative colitis - A trainer's journey

In this episode on Through the eyes of adversity I talk with Laura Blease, a personal trainer at Ultimate Performance and Laura tells a story about her journey living with the auto immune disease Ulcerative Colitis. We talk through topics including, how and when she got diagnosed, a day in her life, and the mental and emotional impacts of the condition as well as how resistance training helps her manage it. We cover both the physical and mental benefits of training with Ulcerative Colitis. As requested….. I usually train 4 times a week, lower, upper and two total body sessions. I like to train back in particular pull-ups, lat pull downs and rows. My lower compound movements are Romanian deadlifts, barbell hip thrusts and a squat variation. I’m intuitive and adapt my sessions according to how I’m feeling that day for example, take more rest between sets or leave more reps in reserve and not train to failure if fatigue is feeling particularly bad that day. I am introducing a little running into my routine, pacing myself with a 3km. I’m also a lover of pole fitness and will aim to get to the studio once a week if possible. Nutritionally I aim to consume 30-40g of protein 3/4 times daily. As soon as I wake I will drink a pint of water before I touch any caffeine. I have a piece of fruit as snacks between meals and have some form of chocolate each evening as I love it and life has to be balanced!!

Step by Step: A Bipolar Journey in Nature

In this episode of Through the eyes of adversity I got the chance to spend time with Liam Gray, co-founder of Live Great Adventures which is a charity group that puts people together in nature and creates an amazing environment for people to walk and talk. Liam bravely shares his personal story from leaving the military, mental health struggles and a life changing bipolar diagnosis, to discovering the power of walking out in nature. In this episode we only really see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Liam's life and journey to this point, however what we can see, is an inspiring story of resilience and determination to not only help himself but help others. This really took Liam out of his comfort zone but his desire to share an important message allowed him to talk about some very difficult points in his life. https://www.instagram.com/adam_cnewton/ https://www.instagram.com/livegreatadventures/ https://www.instagram.com/liam.gr8/ westwood-recruitment.com
