Through the Church Fathers by C. Michael Patton

Episode notes

Justin Martyr traces the Old Testament witness to Christ through the two advents, the cross, Joshua, the Passover, true circumcision, Zechariah’s vision, Christian sacrifice, repentance, and the promises to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Judah. Augustine then recalls the discovery of the martyrs Gervasius and Protasius in Milan, where healing, praise, and public wonder restrained persecution and stirred his own heart more deeply toward God. Aquinas closes the grace section by clarifying merit: no one earns the first grace, but once grace is given, God graciously rewards the works His own Spirit produces in us.
